VEISHEA

The 9th annual Alumni Band VEISHEA float sailed down the Iowa State University campus on Saturday, April 18, 1998. Sixty-five members of the Alumni Band took part in the very family oriented event that helped save VEISHEA for another year. About forty people enjoyed a Valentino's buffet brunch, and all enjoyed some refreshing soft drinks and tootsie rolls (hey, weren't those supposed for the kids???).

Peter and Joanne Tubbs coordinated the festivities this hear. The band borrowed a hayrack from the very generous Joe Sabers, who lives just southe of Ames and has many, many hayracks to choose from. The beautiful red truck was from Moffitt Ford in Boone - we tried not to get it dirty. Gary Anderson was our very safe driver, and he got to hear "Basin Street Blues" and ISU Fights about 100 times thanks to a float ahead of us that caught fire!

The weather was absolutely perfect, and as far as he knows, the alumni band gave President Jischke no reason to cancel VEISHEA.

The parade was not the only part of VEISHEA that had alumni participation. One of our very own, Marge Bennett-Folger directed the Stars Over VEISHEA production of Music Man this year. Accompayning her in this task was Joe Christensen who conducted the orchestra. One person who attended said it compared to the broadway shows he had seen, and is sure it was because these two people were part of it!
