Is it that time again? Homecoming is coming soon! Can it be? Yes! Before we know it, the leaves of the fall will start to turn and it will be time to ask yourself "can I REALLY still march and play my instrument at the same time? I can;t even walk while chewing gum!" And for those of you who were never "lucky" enough to be in marching band and chose not to stand out in the show while showing your musical abilities, we'd like you to put your best foot forward (pardon the pun) and try your hand at joining the Alumni Band. It doesn't matter which bands you were in at Iowa State, we still want to see you at Homecoming. It's not hard and it is a LOT of fun! Join us Friday night, October 9th at the Best Western Starlight, and/or Saturday morning at Jack Trice Stadium. Then we'll all get together at halftime of the Iowa State - Missouri game and play a little music together.
Last year we had 181 people attend Homecoming. Our highest attendance so far has been 195. If you've made it in the past, try and make it again this year and help us send our attendance over two hundred. Do you have an old band friend that you haven't seen for a while? Drop them a line and invite them to Homecoming! That's why we all get together so we can renew our old friendships, and start new ones.
This year we'll have former KCCI TV newsman and ISU grad Martin Augustine as our honored Alumni Band Member. We will also bring former director Dan Phillips (aka DP) back to ISU for the Homecoming Festivities.
If Homecoming doesn't fit your schedule this year, don't forget Men's Basketball Pep Band n the winter, and the VEISHEA Parade next spring. Both are great chances to take part in some of the most fun you can have at ISU.
The ISU Alumni Band has finally hit cyberspace! Our internet web site, www.isualumniband.org, is now up and running. This is where you can go to get the latest info on Homecoming, go to the discussion area and leave a message for your Alumni Band friends, or check out what went on at our last get togethers.
Hope to see you in October!
