Letter from the Editors
A few more things to squeeze in:
Do you know someone worthy of an award? Each year the Alumni
Band considers the contributions of its members and friends.
When the board sees fit one of three honors can be bestowed on
a deserving individual. The awards include:
-
Noteworthy Service Award: Given to an official Alumni Band
member in recognition of time, talents, financial donation,
and service in the spirit of the Alumni Band and the ISU
Program.
-
Tutti Award: Given to a person, usually male, and an
unofficial member of the band for exemplary service and
dedication to the band.
-
Gracenote Award: The female version of the Tutti Award.
Nominations are taken throughout the year and the awards are
presented at Homecoming. Contact any board member with your
nomination.
The 2002 recipient of the Noteworthy Service Award was Lorna
Livingston. Lorna has been an active participant in the Alumni
Band since its induction in 1981. In addition to playing at
Alumni Band events, Lorna is a past president of the Alumni
Band, active board member, and has marched in every Alumni
Band Homecoming half time show. Lorna even marched with the
'Varsity' band at the London Millennium Day Parade. The
enthusiasm and long time commitment to the Alumni Band makes
Lorna truly Noteworthy!
You may have noticed the Alumni Band unveiled a new banner at
this year's Veishea parade. After years of wear and tear the
existing banner was showing its age. The board voted to design
and purchase a new banner for the Alumni Band that wouldn't
include a date, saving the annual expense of updating the
banner. Thanks to Ben Ihde and Sign-a-Rama, the Alumni Band
will be easily identified in a crowd.
Thanks for reading and participating.
