Dennis Goering, past president of the Alumni Band, has been selected by the ISU Alumni Association to receive the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. The award is presented annually to recognize alumni under 40 years of age whose achievements in career, public service or volunteer activities have brought honor to the university.

Dennis and five other young alumni will receive their awards during the Iowa State's Homecoming weekend on October 24, 1997, at the Alumni Honors and Awards Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. in Benton Auditorium, Iowa State Center.

Dennis is president and CEO of dhg Productions, Inc., and award-winning video production company in Des Moines. He also is a Managing Partner of Cyclone Illustrated and President of U.S. Video.

Dennis' contributions to Iowa State Bands are legion. He initiated the highly successful Adopt-The-Band Campaign and personally gave the largest single cash donation in one year. He has created special highlight videos, and he has supplied the pyrotechnics for the opening halftime of the 1995 season.

Other contributions include a portable sound system for marching band rehearsals, kerosene heaters during cold home football games, arranging transportation for equipment to away football games and for the Alumni Band entry in the VEISHEA parade. He also assisted with a sound system for the Basketball Pep Band. Dennis is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, Order of the Knoll, and Gold Plus member of the National Cyclone Club. In addition, he is also a board member of the Des Moines Cyclone Club and was president of Alumni Band in 1994-95. He serves on the board of directors of the Iowa Motion Picture Association.

Dennis' previous honors include 17 Telly Awards, six Iowa Motion Picture Awards, 10 Central Iowans in Radio and Television Electronic |Media Awards, Kappa Kappa Psi honorary member of the charter class, the Alumni Band's Noteworthy Service Award and Presidential Service recognition.

We would like to congratulate Dennis on this very honorable award and thank him for his many contributions to the ISU band program.
