Student Scholarships
Submitted by Joseph Christensen

Each year three band members are selected to receive a scholarship based on the outstanding contributions they have made to the music program. This scholarship fund was set up so that each year enough money is earned on the interest of this fund to support three scholarships. This fund pays about 5% interest per year. As of 4/18/97 there was $285.95 remaining as cash, and $13,878.99 in the investing pool. Last year's recipients are highlighted below.

Doug Souleyrette. Doug is a freshman majoring in Pre-Chemical Engineering. He is a member of the ISU Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Men's Basketball Pep Band. Along with his music talent, Doug is also one of the National Merit Scholarship winners you will find in the band.

Kenny Drefke. Kenny is a graduating senior majoring in Music Education. Kenny has been an ISU Drum Major for the past two years, the 1996 Student Director of Men's Basketball Pep Band, principal clarinet in the ISU Wind Ensemble, and lead Alto Sax in ISU Jazz Ensemble I. We also hear that Kenny has been selected to play in the prestigious Military Band in Omaha, Nebraska next year. Congratulations!

Steve Smyth. Steve is a senior majoring in Music with one more year remaining. Steve has been Co-captain of the ISU Drumline for the past two years, Pep Band Administrative Assistant, and section leader of the ISU Wind Ensemble percussion section.
