Director of Bands - Joseph Christensen's Letter

Dear Alumni Band,

I can't begin to thank you enough for all of the support you have given to the "Varsity" band over the past several years. The great memories and affectionate feelings that you recall are reflected in the loyalty and commitments you have made to our current students. Your support has made a phenomenal impact on our program and has positively affected the lives of hundreds of students. I want to share some statistics with you to let you know just who it is you are supporting. (Although we only have figures for the Marching Band, the other seven bands in our program have similar students.) The 1996 Cyclone Marching Band had:

• 58 Students That Have Been in the Honors Program at ISU (One out of Every Five Students)
• 5 National Merit Scholarship Winners
• 6 National Merit Finalists
• 3 Presidential Scholarship Winners
• 16 High School Valedictorians
• 86 Members of the National Honor Society in High School
• 51 Students in Leadership Roles in Professional Clubs and Campus Organizations at ISU

This is an impressive list and is typical of the wonderful students I have the privilege of working with on a daily basis. Without your support we would not have a successful band program.

I want to extend a special invitation to all of you to come back and join us for our 1997 Alumni Homecoming Band. Dust off the old instrument and don't worry if you haven't played in a long time. The prerequisites are a desire to: return to campus, renew old friendships, make some wonderful new friends, and have a good time. Please join us.
