Executive Board Meeting Minutes

ISU Alumni Band Executive Board Meeting
Saturday, April 19, 1997
Room 145 Music Hall

Dennis Carlson called to order 8:30. The roll call sheet was passed around by Jerry Hartman Secretary. The Secretary's report was approved with a few amendments. Mr. C presented the treasurer's report. The more detailed report was appreciated by all. The report was approved as presented. Summarizing the report, Mr. C said that Homecoming is not really paying for itself. Strong Fundraising with the raffle, golf, etc. really keeping it in the black.

Fundraising: Dennis Goering and Scott Olson are new chairs of Fundraising committee. Dennis announced that a $10,000 donation to the adapt-a-band project was made by the Des Moines Cyclone Club. Differed gifts of $750,000 are great but we need more cash. A survey of Big 12 Band programs by MO band, showed a budget range from $450,000 to $67,000. ISU is the lowest. $90,000 was the next lowest. We have a very serious operating budget problem. Much of the cash from the Fundraising went to purchase new uniforms and flags. Help from the University????? Maybe????!!!??? Marty P surveyed the ISU Band program and found the band has 58 honors program students, 5 national merit winners, 6 national merit finalist, 51 leaders of prof. clubs and college organizations. Mr. C made a joke which, (due to the sensitivity awareness of our times) cannot be printed here. Moral of the story is ISU Band members are a bright group.

Scholarship report: The money in the account is increasing. The money is used to reward exceptional students and sometimes to recruit talented students to ISU. Kenny Drefke has been selected to be a part of the SAC Band in Omaha!

The new Homecoming registration form was presented by Marty P. Paula O. moved to have only one fee, no spousal discount, break out Friday evening, have an "at the door" cost premium, add extra brunch ticket, set cost at $35.00, add a donation line, add fluff piece as to the actual cost of the weekend. Friday $10 early, $15 at the door, extra brunch tickets to $11.00 Marty D 2nd.

Motion carried unanimously.

Veishea: Bagels for breakfast will reduce the cost of the day. We will lineup at 10:45 north of the Design Center. Anyone wanting to go to the spring game may go. No formal entourage will be there. We should make about $200 from the registration.

Jerry H will send a thank you to Moffitt's Ford in Boone for the use of a Ford truck in the parade.

Web Page- Jeff Wellman presented a fabulous preview of ideas to be added to the Web. We hope to have some of them on line by Fall. Jeff was granted the authority to proceed as he and Doug Lim see fit.

Basketball Pep Band: We won. An ISU Center apology was read by Dennis Carlson for the action of searching Alumni Band Cases before they were allowed to enter.

Pres. Elect: Jay Chapman : Updated the board on the Nominations for Board positions.

Newsletter: Paula "I'm so confused!!!""" The newsletter is about 1/2 done. She needs articles from the responsible officers.

Public relations: No Report. Discussion was held as to the significance of the office. Discussions were tabled.

Golf : Several dates were shown by Dennis Goering. A date will be determined by the committee of Dennis G, Dennis C, Jerry H and Lori Sanderson.

Alumni jackets: A motion to raise the price of jackets to $35 was made by Jerry H, 2nd by Jeff W

Motion passed.

This year's Honorary Band member(s) may be Tim Floyd and his Mom! Deb S. will check into it.

Celebrity Director: Kirk...- Dennis C will check on this one.

Theme of this years Friday night celebration was deferred to the ISU Vs. Iowa game. Dennis G. will line up the DJ. Jerry H will arrange for the registration on the grand prize winner. We have 60 rooms for Friday eve. and 40 rooms for Saturday evening. Mr. C will arrange the food, Dennis C will handle the Raffle again this year. The spouses coffee will be held in the dhg skybox.

The only meal change for Sat. A.M. will be to add bagels and muffins. Noteworthy service award nominees are Greg O'Bern or Scott Olson. No other nominations were taken. Mr. C needs to arrange for the "Golden Shuttle". Jeff W will make the table tents again this year.

Jerry H moved to have the Saturday eve. post game celebration to be moved to "Johnnie's Bar and Grill" at the request of the management of the establishment. Paula O 2nd.

Motion passed provided there are no obligated charges.

The next meeting will be held on Sept. 20th , 1997, the ISU vs Iowa game.

Marty D moved to adjourn, 2nd by Jay C. Meeting adjourned at 10:22 A.M.
