Executive Board Meeting Minutes
ISU Alumni Band Executive Board Meeting
Saturday, December 21, 1996
Room 256 Music Hall
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 P.M. by President Dennis Carlson in
Rm 256 of the music building. The Secretaries report was read and approved with
changes. The Treasurer's report was presented. There are a few items not listed
on the report yet, but roughly speaking we are in the burgundy. The Starlight
bill for the homecoming event was higher than expected. Almost double, but it
was still cheaper than Johnny's, they didn't drop the $300 room charge. We will
most likely have to borrow money to print the newsletter. Deb Sinclair move to
accept, Jay Chapman 2nd. Motion passed.
Fundraising Report $30,000 since Homecoming!!!
Special Projects: Marty Dostalik reported that approx. 70 people have signed
up for Basketball Pep Band. He needed to order 24 more t-shirts. We may need to
begin incorporating new Cy logo shirts into the pep band. No action taken. Kari,
Deb and Lori will run registration at Hilton. Chairs need to be set up and
everyone is asked to help tear down. The music folders are completed, (most of
them anyway). A list for additional songs will be at the registration desk. Jay
will try to incorporated the new songs for next year.
Brian Boesenberg: Veishea: Valentinos will be used for food again. Golf
outing sign-up that was held during Homecoming...responses... Pauline may have
it. The parade will be pretty much the same as last year.
Doug Lim: Web page: needs logos on paper or printed materials. Server
space...may be combined with the music department. Something real basic will be
out in the next few months.
Officer Reports:
Newsletter: Not much new. After first of year materials will be assembled.
Pubic Relations: going well
OLD BUSINESS:
Deb Sinclair & Dennis Goering attended the Varsity Band Banquet. 35
graduating seniors were handed a kookie and a diploma from the Alumni Band. They
were invited to attend the homecoming events next year. Parents addresses are
listed with Pauline and each senior will be sent the newsletter to encourage
attendance. Deb and Dennis were well received.
Golf outing: Dennis Goering: The outing did make a profit. of $231. It was
suggested to continue the event next year. There was discussion to move the
event from homecoming to Veishea, or to have it as a separate event due to the
potential weather extremes. Homecoming is Oct. 21. it will be cold. A Golf
outing on it's own this summer, the time it will be held and the place is to be
determined by a committee Dennis Goering(chair),Lori, Marty & Jerry.
NEWSLETTER STAFF please include sign-up/interest on the Veishea invitation.
Alumni Jackets: Deb Sinclair: Only 4 jackets were returned during homecoming.
A new shipment has arrived and we have a good inventory of jackets. Bill
Reisberg in Story City (515) 733-5301 has the licensing rights to the logo of
ISU.
NEW BUSINESS:
Oct. 25th NEW DATE Room Number to 60 rooms for Friday 40 Saturday night.
Jerry will contact Lori Slickenger to have her note to change our reservation to
the 25th. Dennis Carlson will follow-up later in the week.
Registration fee: Pauline would like to work with us on the registration
form. LaVonne moved to keep Prices the same as last year: $29 single; $62 couple
with ticket; $42 without. After much discussion, the motion was tabled until a
better estimate could be made on the cost for next year.
The main topic of budgeting is how to pay for the newsletter. We are
currently sending out over 4000 newsletters to get 189 marchers. Ways to lower
the cost were discussed. Sending a postcard to the 4000 to determine interest in
the newsletter, then sending to those who responded. Inclusion of a request to
not sent the newsletter anymore. Alumni band membership fee was discussed.
Corporate sponsorship of the band. Advertising in the newsletter to help defer
some of the expenses. By advertising, we lose our non-profit mailing status.
Lori will check into postage rate differences. A motion to raise prices by $1
per person was made and 2nd. After more discussion the motion was tabled until
Veishea. Lori & Deb will work with Pauline to figure a registration
procedure/form.
