Band History

Humble Beginnings

What is currently known around the world as The Iowa State University Cyclone Football Marching Alumni Band hasn't always been this popular. Way back in 1906, Iowa State College started a band program simply to provide a diversion for the often intelligent, but not so creative science-types that were attending the land grant college. After about two years of making music (?), the music department wanted to see if the sounds would get any better if they moved the band outside and made the musicians walk around. Much to their surprise, the music in motion was incredible!

This isn't how it actually started, but we would like to know what really happened. If you know, please tell us. Contact the Band Office at (515) 294-2080, or E-mail the Webmaster with your story.
